I. Objective of the game
The objective of the game is to win the league depending on the criteria defined by the league. A league could be one of two formats.
a. Points League - where the manager of the team with the maximum points at the end of the Regular Season wins the league.
b. Head-to-Head League - where the manager of the team that wins the Super Bowl at the end of the Regular Season and the Playoffs wins the league.
The current league is to be played in both Points League and Head-to-Head League format. The same roster and starting line up would be used for both leagues.
II. The League
MAX_TEAMS - 8
MAX_MANAGERS - 1
MAX_CMNR - 1
MAX_SEASON 1
MAX_ROSTER 16
MAX_QB 3
MAX_RB 6
MAX_WR 6
MAX_TE 3
MAX_K 3
MAX_DEF 3
The League consists of MAX_TEAMS number of teams with MAX_MANAGERS Manager(s) managing the affairs of the team. The League itself is managed by MAX_COMNR Commissioner(s) who must be one of the Managers. A League is governed by all the rules that are specified here in. A change to an existing rule or addition of a new rule should be made after unanimous approval from the League members. In case there is no unanimous decision, the changes must be made only after an approval with majority votes favoring the decision.
Each team have a maximum of MAX_QB Quarter Backs, MAX_RB Running Backs, MAX_WR Wide Receivers, MAX_TE Tight Ends, MAX_K Kickers and MAX_DEF Team Defense units.
III. The Teams
The League is made up of MAX_TEAMS number of teams. Each team can draft up to MAX_ROSTER number of players to fill in their Roster. There is no restriction on player positions, but every team is expected to start players at every position required. Hence, there exists a minimum number of players to be drafted in each position.
III. The Commissioner
The Commissioner is the over all manager of the league. The Commissioner would be the arbiter of any disputes between teams in the league. Any change to be made to the league itself would have to be initiated by the Commissioner and cannot be decided by him/her arbitrarily.
The Commissioner must be a manager in the league and the tenure for the post would be MAX_SEASON season(s). The post would then rotate between the various managers in the league.
IV. Managers
Each Team has a Manager who is responsible and authorized to do the following
a. Draft members and fill up the rosters.
b. Set starting line ups every week
c. Release or Sign players every week in tune with Waiver regulations
d. Trade for players every week in tune with Trade regulations
V. Regular Season
The regular season for the league begins on the same day as the regular season begins for the NFL. The season for the league ends on the same day the regular season ends for the NFL. The NFL playoffs do not form part of the league.
VI. Drafts
A draft is the process by which managers fill in their roster spots. The draft is usually serpentine with the draft order reversing every round. For the first year, the draft order would be determined on the birth date (not month or year) of the managers with the manager with smallest number getting to pick first. From the next year onwards, the draft order would be determined on the previous year's standings with the last pick team picking first in the first round.
A draft could be done in four ways
a. live draft in person
b. live draft online
c. live draft using mails
d. automated draft using player rankings
The draft method would be chosen based on the number of days left for the season to begin and the comfort of the members. A draft would typically last MAX_ROSTER rounds.
All undrafted players enter the Waiver Wire immediately.
VII. Starting Lineup & Roster Size
A starting lineup would contain the following
a. Quarter Back - 1
b. Running Back - 2
c. Wide Receiver - 2
d. Flex Player - RB/WR - 1
e. Tight End - 1
f. Kicker - 1
6. Team Defense - 1
A roster is expected to contain up to MAX_ROSTER players with everyone other than the starting members staying on the bench.
VIII. Points System
The points system is available from the League home page.
IX. General Rules
The general rules applicable for this league can be accessed from the Yahoo! Fantasy Football Rules page.
X. Trades
Any manager can propose a trade to any other manager by using a said mechanism. The other
manager can accept, decline or make a counter offer. If no action is taken within 10 days of the trade offer, the trade automatically gets declined.
Once a trade has been accepted, the trade becomes a "pending trade", the league is informed about it and managers have up to two days to request for a review of the "pending trade". If 1/3rd of the managers (4 managers in our league with 10 teams) vote against the trade, the trade is voided. After two days, the trade is considered accepted and roster changes would be made automatically. Thus, a trade moves from "pending trade" to "accepted trade".
A player cannot be in more than one pending trade. ie, if two managers have already agreed on a trade and it is currently in front of the league for examination, such player cannot be involved in another trade. A manager can be in a maximum of 5 pending trades.
There is no deadline to trade players. They can be traded throughout the entire season.
XI. Waivers
A player is waived by a team due to lack of performance, injury or to free up a roster spot. Upon being waived, a player enters the Waiver Wire and stays there for 2 days. During this time, the managers (including the one who waived the player, if s/he had a change of heart) can lay claim on this player. Once the player leaves the waiver wire, the claims will be processed. If more than one manager has bid for the same player, the manager with the "best waiver priority" will get the player. Players who have been waived, but not claimed from the wire will enter the Free Agents pool after the waiver deadline.
A 'Can't Cut' list needs to be maintained to avoid star players being released in the market after the respective manager's season is all but over.
XII. Free Agents
A Free Agent is a player who has been undrafted or waived by a team and not picked during the next round of Waiver Wire. Any team is free to draft any player once he has entered the Free Agents pool. The priority would be on a First-Come-First-Serve basis, unlike the Waiver Wire. If the team has MAX_ROSTER players in the roster already, a player from the roster list has to be waived to accommodate the free agent.
